REFLECTION & PRACTICE
Introduction
In our last session we focused on the nature of complex challenges, engaged in a different way of interacting, which required you to explore and experiment AND you had the opportunity to reveal personal vulnerabilities related to your complex challenge.
Thank you for taking all of that on, in our session. If you’re feeling a little discombobulated from all of that, it would not be surprising! I’m hoping you also feel like you’re a learning a lot that is relevant to “What is yours to do’.
These are some comments, from previous sessions, which I’ve paraphrased.
“we really need time to look at all angles of these complex challenges, it’s great to be able to join the dots between different perspectives - it’s very rare that we give ourselves this time. Perhaps if we did we’d save time and stop ‘solving’ the wrong things, which actually creates more work for ourselves”
“it’s so hard to not immediately turn to where I’ve faced a similar challenge before and stop listening to the woman’s unique context, which means I’ll ask leading questions and offer perspectives that are not attuned to the messy complexity of what she is in”
Remember to engage in the Being practices if you need to settle for a few days, Then when you are ready I would strongly recommend you engage in these questions.
Reflection
Using ‘What is Yours to Do’ as your North Star to direct your focus of attention and your ‘New way fo Being’ as a container to hold new behaviours
Become more attuned to the types of problems being addressed in your workplace - clear, complicated or complex.
What changes do you think are needed in the dynamic of the groups you are part of, to address those problems? Why?
What role/contribution do you want to make, in enabling those changes?
What new behaviours do you want to practice, what assumptions do you want to inquire about, what new intentions do you want to make?
How will you assess your progress?
Refer to the slides here from the presentation to inform your exploration.
Practice
Finally I’m attaching some practices I created for participants in a previous cohort, half way through their program. I made them generic so they can not be traced back to one individual. Have a flick through and see if any of the practices would be useful for you to take on, knowing you are not alone. We are all learning together.
